A member asked:

What are the effects of long term drug abuse on the mind and body?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends on the drug: It depends on the drug as to the main areas of the body affected. In general, drugs have a toxic effect on the body. One can get brain damage, liver disease (cirrhosis, hepatitis c), cardiovascular problems (higher risk for heart attacks and stroke) and an increased risk for cancer. I have patients who still halucinate even after stopping drugs.
