Not always: The wound does not always have to be deep to get tetanus. Causes include wounds which are contaminated with dirt, poop (feces), or spit (saliva) puncture wounds such as from a nail or needle and burns. Tetanus has sometimes been seen with clean superficial wounds when only the upper most layer of skin is scraped off. I wish you well with your health!
