A member asked:

Generally speaking, what does very low transferrin and high tibc indicate & how do you treat it?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Don't treat labs: These labs do point to true iron deficiency -- an absolute lack of iron in your body. It's a low transferrin SATURATION, correct? Most essential is to find the cause -- even at your age, we need to rule out a bleeding cancer in the gut, and some other stuff. Your physician will handle this. Once this is addressed, we'll look at diet and oral or injectable supplements.
