Start pre-natal care: Your OBGYN would offer the type of testing available in your area and their usual timeline as part of pre-natal care. Such tests can be screening tests, which are not definitive but select out those with higher risk for more conclusive tests. The NIPT is done on fetal cells found in maternal blood as early as 8-10 wks. It is expensive but very accurate in detecting Down syndrome.
