Swellings differ: If the swelling is due to a minor trauma and no blood vessels are injured under the skin or in the underlying muscles, the swelling should resolve within 3-5 days. If, however, a blood vessel in injured and blood collected in the underlying tissue, it can take much longer for a complete resolution of the swelling and the bruising that would happen. These swellings can last a month or so.
