Injections vs Surger: If pt is not helping, sometimes epidural steriod injections can help alleviate the pain. If those modalities fail and you are still experiencing pain, surgery may be an option. Fortunately, for the properly selected patients and in the right hands, surgery can be very successful.

Facet joints: Chronic neck pain can come from the arthritic facet joints of the cervical spine. Even if you have "herniated discs" seen on mri, unless you have a lot of arm pain with numbness/tingling, the central neck pain, referred into the shoulder area and up into the back of the head, may come from the inflamed joints of the neck. Facet joint injections may offer you great relief and control of the pain.
