A member asked:

My new doctor has prescribed citalopram and cymbalta and discontinued my paxil 60mg. i need to know if this is safe?

On citalopram: Dear XLarson, Both citalopram and paxil are same class of medication (SSRIs), so it sounds like your doctor replaced paxil with citalopram, which seems like a reasonable thing to do given that citalopram has fewer side-effects. I’m unsure about adding Cymbalta (it’s also an antidepressant that’s often prescribed for pain associated with arthritis). I’d encourage you to talk to your prescriber.
