A member asked:

A *friend* self harmed into their fat layer. do they need stitches? they are <18, and do not want to go to the hospital unless absolutely necessary.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Hard to say: Gaping wounds or those where blood flow is difficult to control need stitches. Those in areas over/near joints also require more effort to close than those further away.
