Newborn screening...: Every infant gets tested for a variety of treatable conditions via the newborn screening program in every state. Arizona, for example, tests all infants for 28 disorders (http://www.Azdhs.Gov/lab/aznewborn/parents/disorder-info.Htm). There are probably over 1000 other genetic tests that can be ordered to test for specific problems, based on a child's symptoms.
