A member asked:

Does the body increase aldosterone if salt levels are normal but there is excess potassium or is potassium removed in a different way?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Aldosterone: High levels of potassium or low blood pressure signal the body to raise aldosterone levels which in turn retains salt and water and causes excretion of potassium thereby elevating blood pressure. High salt levels and water retention wouldn't increase aldosterone levels but should reduce them. Dysregulation of aldosterone is a potential cause of hypertension.
