Short/long term: Unfortunately your description suggests you have an infection around the area. In the short term you can apply antibiotic alternating with hydrocortisone cream on a twice daily basis to see if it will heal the area & calm the irritation. If that doesn't help within a few days an exam may be needed to come up with a better solution. This can be strep A, or yeast, or other bacteria.
