A member asked:

I have low ferritin (5) & i often get iron infusions (monthly) but i consistently have low wbc, mchc, mch, neutrophils & high rdw. why? what is it?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Low ferritin: You didn't mention whether your red blood cell count or platelets are also low. If so this suggests bone marrow failure or possible myelodysplasia. Otherwise the parameters are consistent with ongoing iron deficiency especially if your iron binding capacity is very high. Low wbc may not be pathological or may be an autoimmune process. Your hematologist can advise you best, however.
