A member asked:

Kidney stones were found via ultrasound. urine specimen found no infection, but rare atypical uriothelial cells. what could this mean?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Atypical: These atypical cells in the urine are nonspecific and can be seen with stones, inflammation or malignancy. If there is further concern your physician can order a cytology examination of the urine which is more specific. A FISH test of the urine is ordered when cytology is inconclusive.Your physician or urologist can advise you best.
