Location: Stage iii means nodes on both sides of the diaphragm. Letter "a" means no lymphoma symptoms like weight loss, night fever or night sweats. The 1 or 2 means involvement of the spleen and upper abdominal nodes (1) or lower abdominal nodes (2). Treatment would be the same either way and as far as i recall, so should be the prognosis insofar as the patient gets adequate chemo.

It is immaterial: Stage-3 hodgkin disease is commonly divided just into 2 categories: 3a or 3b. No further division matters for prognosis or treatment, as far as i know. So do not complicate your life any more than it has to be!
