Barrett's esophagus: There are alternatives. Acid reducers are essential therapy. Typically a wrap of the stomach is added to stop the acid from washing up the esophagus. Some centers are also adding an endoscopic ablation of the inner lining of the esophagus where the barrett's is located. Long term monitoring is necessary, as barrett's has risk for cancer. There is a procedure called halo which can cure barrett's without major surgery. The more important step is to get his reflux fixed by either a tif (transoral incisionless fundoplication) or a laparoscopic nissen fundoplication.
