Can retest in 1 week: A urine test gives a reliable result 3 weeks after sex (3 weeks after when conception might have occurred), or 1 week after starting a "weird" period. If done sooner, a positive result is likely real, but a negative result may be due to testing too soon, and thus lead to a repeat test. If truly pregnant, the concentration of bHCG will be higher in 1-2 weeks so that all results will be positive.

Pregnant?: Any alteration in "period length" as described may not be an actual "period", but just vaginal bleeding associated with a tubal pregnancy, especially if the home pregnancy tests are equivocal. Get a serum HCG test to be certain, and if positive, see your OB provider asap.
