Start with basics: Start with ice (20 min on every hour), an over the counter anti-inflammatory (naproxen, ibuprofen) if safe for you, and stopping any activities that are worsening or causing the pain. If not improved in a day or two see your primary care doctor or an orthopod for further assessment and a physical exam of the shoulder. Many things can cause shoulder pain both in, around, and outside the shoulder.
