Avoid Antibiotics: Too often caregivers provide patients with antibiotics for viral illnesses. As a consequence the “microbiota” or bacteria in your mouth and bowel are altered. Antibiotic use selects for resistant bacteria that have the potential to harm you in the future. Most viral illness are self-limited that is they run their course within 7-10 days, and antibiotics are of no benefit.
