It's medical problem: Tobacco dependence is considered a medical condition or 'diagnosis'. Just like dependence on alcohol, or even prescription drugs, it is very much a medical problem. In fact, tobacco use is the number one preventable medical problem in the U.S. The number of medical conditions that are the result of smoking is very large. Common is heart and lung disease, but also infertility and erectile problems!
