Thumping: The thumping you experience is probably the preauricular artery pulsating. The discomfort you previously had may have been an irritable or irritated superficial nerve(neuralgia) since there was no discoloration or swelling associated with it. Have your physician or an Otolaryngologist examine your ear and surrounding structures if symptoms persist.
