Active cold sore: HSV1 produces "cold sores" according to specific mucosal surfaces, such as the interior of the oral cavity, and the pubic area, when the virus is activated from a dormant state. Usually the sites are predetermined and are not transmitted to other areas of the body. Viral activation produces an immune response which limits viral infectious capacity.
