"breakthrough" bldg.: "Breakthrough bleeding" on low dose oral bcp's is common. Taking the "active" pill punctually (within the hour of taking the previous day's pill) will minimize this. To stop, one must discontinue the present pills, wait five days, and begin a new pack. A brief bleeding episode will occur, but start the new pack on the 5th day. Your pregnancy protection will still be in effect.
