Contact allergy?: This may be from exposure to a contact allergen. Is there a certain activity you often use with your left index finger? Try topical cortisone for a few days, if problem continues or recurs , consult an allergist or dermatologist who may perform skin patch testing to contact allergens on you.

Not certain: Could be a vascular problem or a neurologic problem. Itching suggest allergic reaction. Consider all of these a possiility. You need to discuss this with your physician.
