A member asked:

I understand that you cannot drink alcohol when blood iron levels are elevated, but what is the impact of marijuana use on hemochromatosis patients?

Brain damage: Marijuana is a psychoactive drug and will mess with your brain with or without hemochromatosis. Wish you good health! - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

True iron overload?: “Blood iron levels” may by an error for hemoglobin / hematocrit, true serum iron which can be up just because you took a vitamin containing before your blood was drawn or can point to illness, or serum ferritin, a not-altogether specific marker for hemochromatosis, which if you truly have you should not overindulge until it’s controlled. Nothing to do with cannabis — it’s your business.
