Diagnosed with kidney stones. pain has become manageable. discomfort at times spreads to the rib cage and chest area in addition to flank. normal?

No! : I am not convinced that your kidney stones can produce rib cage/chest pain (although the kidneys themselves do lie just behind the chest/ribs at the upper back level. Get the chest pain evaluated with an in person exam by your PCP just to be 100% sure! Hope this is helpful Dr Z

Full history/exam: A comprehensive evaluation of your medical history, medications, surgeries, family history, and all other medical factors is needed. If you have stones, the size and success of medically expulsive therapy needs to be ascertained. A CT scan would be indicated as well as an EKG and some stat labs in the ER would be best if your pain is severe. Any fever/chills severe pain ER otherwise PCP but ASAP
