A member asked:

I am a 29 year old female with knees, elbows, and a neck that makes a grinding sound when i move them. i'm assuming this is arthritis. i know it's not normal to have arthritis this young. i used to cheer and do gymnastics. could this have caused it?

May be: Your symptoms are more likely to be due to muscle de-conditioning than joint problem. You should try to exercise so that you sweat. Raising core body temperature will loosen the muscles and may help. Wish you good health! - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

At your age: I still think its more likely that the "noise" you hear/feel is from NORMAL PLIABLE cartilage!!!!!! You will age fast enough......don't RUSH IT! Dr Z

See details: Grinding is not specific unless it is accompanied by pain. If you have no pain, ignore the grinding. If you do have pain, see a rheumatologist. Age 29 is not too young for a variety of different types of arthritis.
