Yes you can: Having herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV1) tends to make the symptoms of a new HSV2 infection less severe. It also reduces the risk of HSV2 if exposed, but only a little bit; you can't count on it. Depending on how her HSV2 was diagnosed, confirmatory testing may be a good idea. If her diagnosis is correct, you will be at low with if she takes daily anti-herpes Rx, e.g. valacyclovir, plus condoms.
