A member asked:

My friend, 68, was diagnosed with nph 2 years age and had the shunt implanted with no effect. he is now extremely rigid, in pain, can't do much for himself. what can i expect for the next few years? what stages should i expect towards death?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

NPH: In my experience these patients show progressive unsteadiness, urinary incontinence and varying degrees of dementia if shunting is ineffective. The course may be long and gradual. The patient may dwindle similar to those with Alzheimer's dementia.
