Need exam: The only way to tell is to ask your doctor to examine you to find out whether you had a fracture at the previous site or from something else. He may or may not order a x-ray.

Rib injury: By putting pressure on the deformed rib, the pop you heard may have been you fracturing the rib,hence the pain .Xray of the rib is in order
