Menopausal sx: At 46, although statistical "menopause" has not actually occurred, skipped periods usually means that ovulation takes more time to occur, requiring higher levels of estrogen, which is made in fluctuating levels by the ovary. When estrogen levels suddenly drop, "hot flashes" occur as a reaction to going from high estrogen levels to low levels.
