Emerg. contraception: Types of emergency contraception like "postinor 2 or Plan B" are sometimes effective, but not dependable for pregnancy avoidance. Taking it often in a given cycle is not going to make it more effective, since if fertilization took place, this medication may not prevent implantation of the embryo. If your period is delayed, get a serum HCG test to be certain.

Contraception: Agree with Dr. Berryman. If you miss your period by 4-5 days, do a home pregnancy test. If the result is negative repeat the test 4-5 days later unless you get a period by then. Use first morning urine and follow the instructions for the test carefully. If you do not wish to be pregnant, use contraception all the time, every time. You may consider implanted contraceptive, or IUD. Practice safe sex if you have sex. Get HPV vaccine, if you are younger than 27 years.
