Yes: Type 1 DM can emerge over a week or so. Type 2 is hard to pin down because the metabolic changes are more gradual and often in place for months or years before a person becomes aware of it. Type 1 can kill you if not recognized & treated within days. Type 2 may go unrecognized until testing done for something else picks it up.
