Pain is minimal: LPI is intimidating but rarely painful. The front of your eye will be anesthetized with drops and the laser beam operates on a relatively insensitive portion of the interior of the eye. You do want to be able to hold still, and if you take too strong a pain killer you might not be able to do that. Probably better to take an anti-anxiety pill like 0.5 mg alprazolam.
