A member asked:

Diag with rsv 12/26. 12/29 they said cough cld last 6 weeks. its now abt 7 weeks & he still coughs - some days more than others. shld i be concerned?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not particularly: A cough is a protective reflex meant to clear the airways of mucous buildup or debris. In an infant with RSV there are injuries to the linings of the airways that must heal & the process takes time. 6 weeks is an estimate. These kids often wheeze& cough of and on for up to a year & other upper airway viruses trigger apparent recurrences. Slow but adequate feeding & play are part of a slow recover
