Patient / physician : You are concerned about a tumor secretion with urinary break down and detection. These are complex questions that you want to ask your doctor in person. Write down your questions and make an appointment. Not only do you want the science questions answered, you also want to voice your emotions. Many urine metabolites are measured not just one. Gene study : COMT polymorphisms seen to affect our personalities and risk for mental illness; these are studied by gene analysis and the effects are in the brain; the blood work you mention looks for tumors making the stuff in huge amounts in the periphery. In medicine we say, "If we aren't going to do anything different using the test results, don't do the test." I'm not getting my COMT gene studied.
