Mirena IUD: The Mirena IUD is effective for birth control, but does influence the hormonal aspects of your menstrual cycle. When a period does occur in one's 30"s, it is going to have heavier flow, and some breast tenderness. If there are no contraindications, you might want to try oral bcps, since ovarian activity is stopped, and the consequent side effects of increasing hormones is absent or minimized.
