A member asked:

My 2m old daughter has erythromycin in her eye. if she or my 3yr old daughter were to get it in their mouth. can it be harmful?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Doubt it: The ointment used for eye irritation/pinkeye is not the best form of erythromycin to take by mouth but we do use it occasionally as an oral antibiotic. If the 3yo ate a tube of it, I could see it causing diarrhea or stomachache but I wouldn't be worried about a chance exposure.
