A member asked:

I'm not sure, but should one get the gardasil vaccination if they are not sexually active?

Yes: Since hpv is a sexually transmitted virus, it is ideal to be vaccinated against the virus before one becomes sexually active. Once a person is having sex, they may become infected with hpv if unvaccinated. At that point, the vaccine will do little to protect against the strain a person is infected with. It may however protect against the remining strains in the vaccine.

Yes: Regardless of sexual activity, you should be vaccinated if between the ages of 9 and 26. It is more effective if vaccination occurs prior to sexual activity, but you can still derive benefit even if already sexually active.
