38 weeks appointment today and baby was really low doctor said but not dilated. whats this mean?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

"Lightening": This is the obstetric term that is used to describe the fetus normally dropping down into the pelvis after 36 weeks gestation in preparation for future labor. The cervix (opening of the womb is still not thinned out(effaced) or dilated(open). It is analogous to being in a room (womb) at the door(cervix) but it is closed.(not dilated)
