Cervical exam: There are 3 basic component to a cervical exam. Dilation refers to how open the cervix is. Effacement refers to how thin the cervix is. Station refers to how low the fetal head is. There is not set exam that equals labor but the more dilated, the thinner and the lower down the higher the chances of labor.
