Wrong vs treatable: Most of the fever producing illnesses in early childhood are self healing viruses. As such they require no antibiotics, but there is an illness. If they were thorough enough to do an exam and lab tests and fond nothing to treat, they have done their job. Most of these have no label other than viral illness.

Day 5 vs 6 : There is a break in the decision tree regarding fever and it’s respective causes between Day 5 and day 6. If your baby is on day 6 of a fever, even then it is still likely to be viral, but we start to think about other inflammatory causes. She needs a catheterized urine culture, also.
