A member asked:

Inflammation of abdominal wall 3 wks after appendectomy. how long no lifting over 10lbs. when will be better? do i need meds and a binder?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It varies: Usually the recommendation is to avoid heavy lifting or strenuous abdominal exercise for 6 weeks after surgery. However, if you have inflammation (redness, pain, drainage around the incisions, or fevers) you should see your surgeon to be evaluated. A binder doesn't help stop these issues, and meds may be needed if there is an infection.
