Many possibilities: If the burping and upper abdominal pain occur with fatty foods, it may be because of lack of a gallbladder. Sharp pains into the back suggest possibility of stones in the common bile duct, or pancreatitis, or ulcer in the duodenum. If this persists an exam and additional testing may be needed.
