PAD/atherosclerosis: Yes! nicotine cessation, diet and exercise are the patient factors that help stabilize pad. Medications: anti-hypertensives, cholesterol meds, diabetics meds and antiplatelets are very important. Surgical care when risk of limb loss, stroke, heart attack are high. Surgical results are better in patients who are well managed medically. Good luck, get involved in your care.
