Many options: How small was the ball and was the hit glancing or direct? Can he see now that the blood has cleared? This type of hit produces a traumatic iritis which can last several weeks: pain, light sensitivity, headaches are all common. Long term concerns: retinal contusion with choroidal rupture, vision loss due to this, long term glaucoma monitoring needed. Hopefully in ophthalmologic care.
