A member asked:

How common and safe is it to induce at 39 weeks of pregnancy? what are the concerns one should consider if choosing to induce? thanks

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Labor induction: It is a patient choice to be induced, but may be medically necessary if the fetus is upper normal in size/weight. Induction of labor at a documented 39 weeks has no negative effects on the fetus or the mother. Make sure your dates are correct (ultrasound at earlier stage of pregnancy) . Induction reduces the chance of a cesarean section.
