It is possible as: there are many bacteria in the nose and young babies are more susceptible to infection. However, there is no way to know whether or not it actually will get infected. If you can see the cut, you can apply a small amount of bacitracin with a cotton swab to the area. If it becomes swollen or has pus, it may be infected. I would also recommend you call his/her pediatrician to discuss/be seen.
