A member asked:

Can sinusitis cause no mucus to come out of the nose? will this excess mucus cause infections if spread to other parts of body?

Dr. John Chiu answered

Possible: Although acute sinusitis is often associated with a thick discolored nasal discharge, one may have sinusitis without any discharge at all. The mucus is mostly the body's way to fight against the infection and thus in the case of sinusitis would not spread to other parts of the body. One may need an antibiotic if the problem persists for more than a week or gets worse.
