Examination: By a doctor will help here. To tease out whether rotator cuff tendon problem, or AC joint problem or referred pain from neck or thoracic area among others. May need tests such as X-rays bloods or even scans to sort out depending on how you examine, and then once a diagnosis is made your doctor will be able to sort out either referral or treatment as needed. Shoulder pain: If there is no history of recent injury or sprain, tendonitis of the shoulder joint is likely. You could try,if you can take them, anti-inflammatory medications like Advil or Aleve (with food) as directed on the label. Treatment for a week is often effective. If symptoms persist or you're not able to take anti-inflammatory medications, see your physician for diagnosis and treatment.
