Secretion transfer: Transmission is through secretion transfer. So if no active lesions not transmittable. If active lesion then are contagious. I take it you are talking about genital or HSV-2 virus.You can take medication to prevent an outbreak during your cycle. There is also suppressive medication so you don't have to have outbreaks. Condoms also prevent transmission.
